This is without doubt a huge undertaking, and can only besuccessful with your persistent cooperation. This is not a spasmodic outburst of enthusiasmto do something on our part, but it is a line ofaction decided upon as our duty and as beneficial both to our school and its graduates. Weintend to work tirelessly, leaving no stone unturned, in our efforts to locate our former graduates and in this we shall have the approvaland hearty cooperation of the Terre HauteAlumni Club and the officials of the Normal. For a complete, success it is necessary thatyou, aroused by the spirit of friendship offormer days, will attempt to find out whereyour former classmates are located and howthey have fared. With your aid it is our beliefthat by the end of the school year when theroll- of I. S. N.s sons and daughters iscalled, no name will be blurred with completeobscurity, but that all of your great body will *again be united by the common interest in former friendships and the love for its AlmaMater. There has been considerable talk concerningthe probable sale of Parsons Field to the Cityof Terre Haute for City park purposes. Itseems that citizens in the vicinity of the parkbecame possessed of the idea that Parsons Fieldwould make an ideal site for a beautiful park,(which it undoubtedly would), and consequently they petitioned the City Council to buyit, because as they said it was an eyesore tothe neighborhood on account of its high boardfence. However, when it was discovered thatthe city could not secure it by condemnationproceedings, overtures were made to the Boardof Trustees for its sale. This procedure placed the transaction in anentirely new light. It was discovered that Parsons Field, instead of being considered asmerely a play-ground, was held to be an essential part of the equipment of the State Normal and that its sale was unlikely unless anequally desirable site could be bought for thesame or less money.Parsons Field consists of four acres and wasbought in the rough, and has been improvedwith much expense by the school and the Athletic Association until it has become one of thefinest athletic parks in the State. The probability of its sale, as reported by the local dailypapers, without anjr apparent effort toward securing a new sitef aroused the indignation ofmany of the Alumni and students, and for atime a petition to the authorities controlling thesale was considered.. However, the fears weregroundless, being based on the misleading statements of over-ardent news-gatherers. |
