Says that he is a wage slave and has always been one. Tells Eugene V. Debs that before he became a porter he was a salesman. Assures Eugene V. Debs that even as a salesman he was a socialist. Mentions that his employers knew of he was a socialist but that they did not fire him. Writes that when he lost his salesman job in 1912 because the firm went out of business he spent 8 years on the scrap-heap of life. Tells Eugene V. Debs that in 1907 he had his throat cut for preaching socialism. Mentions that his family lives in Arkansas while he lives in Youngstown, Ohio. Says that he wishes that he could take Eugene V. Debss place. Mentions that he knows that his 8 hour day and good wages are a result of the struggle led by Eugene V. Debs.
