Stone, Irving; 1947-07-11

Description: Letter to Marguerite Debs Cooper, 7/11/1947. Writes that he has finished correcting the galleys of ADVERSARY IN THE HOUSE. Remarks that the Aaron Levenstein, a member of the Socialist Party executive board, thought that ADVERSARY IN THE HOUSE was the most valuable book for labor unions and socialism that has been published in his lifetime. Says that A. Kroch the owner of the Kroch and Brentano chain of bookstores thought that future generations will look upon ADVERSARY IN THE HOUSE as the present generation looks upon UNCLE TOMS CABIN, THE JUNGLE, or MAIN STREET. Mentions that Doubleday is advertising the book as a great novel. Writes that even though some bookstores are prejudiced about the book because it is about Eugene V. Debs and Theodore Debs several of the biggest unions, which have just taken a severe drubbing through the Taft-Hartley Bill, in the country are anxiously awaiting its release because it argues labors cause so earnestly. Mentions that he took his family to Jack Londons Valley of the Moon for a couple of weeks. Says that he will be going east in September to promote his book.
