Brown, Elias 1920-12-29

Description: Letter to Eugene V. Debs, 12/29/1920. Expresses the hope that Eugene V. Debs has a Happy New Year. Mentions that he is a Jewish-Russian American Socialist. Says that he often wonders what happened to the old guard, the people like Job Harriman, Fred Warren, and W. R. Gaylord. Remarks that he thinks that today socialist propaganda talks over peoples heads too much, especially the NEW YORK CALL and the editorials of James Oneal. Says that many people who are sympathetic to the Socialist Party stay away because of the Partys constant appeal for funds. Mentions that there are drives on behalf of Tom Mooney, the Industrial Workers of the World, various strikes, even people who would wreck the Socialist Party like [William] Haywood. Thinks that a party along the lines of the British Labour Party should be formed in America. Mentions that he wrote a letter to the NEW YORK CALL saying the same thing but that the paper did not publish it.
