Invitation to the dedication of the IU South Bend Civil Rights Heritage Center on May 23, 2010. The center was originally the Engman Public Natatorium. The pool completely excluded African Americans from its opening in 1922, segregated against people of color beginning in 1936, and then finally desegregated in 1950. It closed in 1978, and reopened as a museum beginning in 2010. From the collection of Ruth Tulchinsky.
