Black straw trilby style mens hat, size 7. Includes tags for Dobbs Milan and Dobbs New York. Sold by Gilberts, South Bend, Indiana. Stamp reads, Gilberts One Man Tells Another. Gilberts opened in 1901 or 1902 as Gilbert & Sons on S. Chapin St. and was operated by Moses Gilbert and his son Samuel Gilbert. Eventually Samuels brother Paul Gilbert ran the business. The store sold primarily mens clothing. In 1915, the business moved to 813-815 S. Michigan St. and later opened locations at the Scottsdale Mall and University Park Mall. Throughout its history, the store was also known as Gilberts Mens Outfitters, Gilberts Mens Store, and simply Gilberts. The business closed in 1995. |
