Description: |
Brown diamond print patterned square hat box. Text reads, Robertsons of South Bend. Founded in 1904 by George and W. A. Robertson in a tiny storefront, the business repeatedly expanded, finally opening in a six story building at 211 S. Michigan, offering a wide range of goods and a luxurious tea room on the top floor. Their motto was Quality First. At its height, the store employed 400 people and published a monthly magazine. In 1963, Robertsons launched a new department within the store called the University Shop, likely to cater to University of Notre Dame students. The store closed in 1982, and the building was converted to apartments. |
