According to Indianapolis newspapers, the Chinese medicine store operated at this site from August 1889 until March 1891. The white men from Denver who also operated this business in eight other cities were arrested for unlawful use of the title doctor, mail fraud, and conspiracy to defraud. They hired untrained Chinese men to impersonate Gun Wa, a man who never existed.[The 1892 date written on the plastic sleeve is likely incorrect.] |
