Description: Portrait of Ruth [Martens] Iske (1890-1978) as an infant taped into a family album next a photo of the family home in the Irvington district of Indianapolis circa 1906. The photo shows a young girl at the side of the house near a double wooden swing and a sidewalk leading from the back of the house to the front porch.The address of the home is mis-identified in the note in the album. Text from the family history and city directories from the period identifiy the addres as 5801 East Washington Street, in the Irvington district of Indianapolis. The home was built by Herman Martens on the corner of East Washington and Bolton Avenue in 1906, and the family lived their less than a year before moving to California. As the Irvington neighborhood developed, addresses changed. By 1915, the address of the house was 5831 East Washington. It was torn down sometime after 1956.This photo is taken from a written and pictorial history of the Stumpf family written by Ruths mother Bertha in the 1940s and added to by Ruth in the 1960s.
