They lived in a large apartment above the business.Nick Gores (1889-1967) was born in Thanos, Greece, served in World War I, and owned this restaurant with his cousin George Stavropulos (1894-1960).Former owners of the cafe include: Nicholas Gores, George Kaufman, Jim & Wilma Nuell. Opened by George Stavropulos in the 1920s, the Kaufmans owned the cafe in the 1950s,and the Nuells were the last owners.Workers in the 1950s included Adolph Heckrotte as cook and Grace Heckrotte as waitress. Edith Waggoner also worked in the cafe and made pies.Identified in the photo standing on the right is Edith Waggoner. She has her arm around her daughter, Lucille Miller.Sittler noted that Nick Gores and his wife Vera lived in a large apartment above the cafe. |
