Description: |
A view of the aqueduct orginally designed as part of a statewide canal system. Because the path of the planned canal system intersected Fall Creek in Indianapolis, an aqueduct was needed. This view shows the canal running on top, through the middle of the picture. Fall Creek runs underneath. The orginal wooden aqueduct was completed in 1838, with upgrades made in 1870, 1882, and 1890. A flood in March of 1904 washed the aqueduct away, and it took more than a year to rebuild it. It is located south of Burdsal Parkway in an area known as Aqueduct Park. |
