Description: |
Front: Script in upper left reads, Swiss Terrace, Winona Lake, Ind.Back: Body of message reads, Having a fine time; wish you were here with me. This is the Hotel I am staying; have met so many lovely people. Going bathing this afternoon. With love, Aunt Lora. Addressed to, Miss Helen Cheatham, Indianapolis, Ind. c/o Y.M.C.A. The Swiss Terrace Hotel was a popular place to stay. It had moderate prices and meals were available. It was close to the Auditorium and the Tabernacle. The words Swiss Terrace are used to describe three different areas of Winona Lake. Some call the entire area that rims the park from the Winona Hotel to the Ninth Street, Swiss Terrance. Others narrow Swiss Terrace to the area from the Beyer Home to Ninth Street. That area is bounded by Terrace Drive and Chestnut Street bisected by a sidewalk. Then there is small hotel located on Terrace Drive which was named the Swiss Terrace and it included a dining area. The Swiss Terrace Hotel, while no longer a hotel, is still standing. It was built in 1900. |
