Script at bottom of postcard reads, "Afternoon meeting at the Billy Sunday Tabernacle. Jacksonville, Ill." Sunday was in Jacksonville, Illinois from September 25 through November 5, 1908. It is reported that 249,459 attended during the 6 weeks of the meetings. There were 3,200 converts and the offerings totaled $8,000. One reported that Sunday denounced evolution, card playing, dance devotees and theatre gadders. There were 400 electric light bulbs and 2 telephones in the tabernacle. One local minister described Sunday as "a moral cyclone, a prophet sent from God". |
