Description: |
The Butler University Bulldogs appear to be playing basketball against the University of Evansville Purple Aces. It is a close game as the score is 39 to 31, with Butler leading. To the right of the scoreboard, a Butler pennant is on the wall, while an Oklahoma City banner hangs on the wall to the left of the scoreboard. The central scoreboard in this photograph was financed by Indiana National Bank and the Amax Coal Company after a support cable snapped, sending the previous central scoreboard crashing to the floor. Thankfully no one was injured, but the previous scoreboard was beyond repair. The central scoreboard was accompanied by dual scoreboards, located at either end of the basketball court. The latter scoreboards were installed in October 1983, while the central scoreboard was installed over the 1983-1984 winter break. The new scoreboards were synchronized, so that the same time would display on all three scoreboards, and the central scoreboard included a section to display personal fouls and a computerized message board, which were not available on the previous scoreboard. Furthermore, the new scoreboard was supported by additional cables and safety features to prevent the new scoreboard from suffering the same fate. |
