Description: |
The trees in and around Norris Plaza are starting to bloom as seen from the roof of Jordan Hall. Donated by Fern E. Norris in memory of her son Dr. Max S. Norris, former chairman of Butler Universitys Board of Trustees, construction on the plaza began in May 1995. Mrs. Norris wanted to create a memorial for her son, but she also wanted to create a space where students could gather. Designed by landscape architect Ron Howe, the low walls are designed for sitting and the four and half foot tall lighted fountain has two waterfalls. Butler University President Geoffrey Bannister suggested the idea of adding a speaking stone where students can stand to speak about what is on their minds. The plaza was officially dedicated on Sunday, September 24, 1995. The buildings in the background of the photograph are Lilly Hall and Clowes Memorial Hall. |
