This photograph highlights portions of Jordan Hall and the South Mall. Near the sidewalk, surrounded by grass, is a plaque commemorating the site of the home plate at Butlers first intercollegiate baseball game on the Fairview campus. The game was played on May 17, 1924, four years before classes started on the Fairview campus. Butler University won the game against the University of Chicago, 8-6. The plaque was donated by Butler graduate J. Robert Keach (Class of 1925) and it lists the names of the 1924 Butler University baseball team and their coach, Paul D. Tony Hinkle. |
