Woodlands Cultural Festival at Butler University

Description: In September 1996, Butler University hosted the Woodlands Cultural Festival and several Native American tribes participated. One of the participants was the Miami Indians living-history, reenactment group, Keshookcotoqua. The group reenacted and demonstrated skills from the late 1700s and early 1800s Eastern Woodland village life. Some of the skills they demonstrated included finger weaving, drying foods, hut making, porcupine quill weaving, tanning hides, and making cattail reed mats. Workshops for the public were held at several locations across the campus. Irwin Library hosted a leather pouch workshop, while the Holcomb Building hosted a seed necklace workshop. Jordan Hall is in the background of this photograph.
