Description: |
In honor of the completion of an addition to Lilly Hall, Butler University President Bobby Fong is presented with a key to the building at a building dedication ceremony on February 21, 2003. Sometimes referred to as the Courtyard Building, since the addition was constructed in the courtyard of the existing building, the approximately 47,500 square-foot addition included two dance studios, a percussion room, an electronic music lab, choral rooms, four rehearsal rooms, and a theater, where the ceremony was held. The addition was designed by the architectural firm of Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf and the contractors were Shiel Sexton Company, Inc. From left to right the people standing at the front of the audience are Butler University Board of Trustees Chair Tom Elrod, Fong, Andrew Shiel of the Shiel Sexton Company, Inc., and architect Jonathan Hess of Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf. The key was symbolic since more than 40 years earlier, during the dedication ceremony for the original portion of the building, held on December 9, 1962, Gil Richey, a representative from the architectural firm of McGuire and Shook, Compton, Richey and Associates, presented a key to Butler University Board of Trustees President Harry T. Ice. On August 16, 2007, the Courtyard Building was officially named the Allen Whitehill Clowes Pavilion because of a monetary donation from the Allen Whitehill Clowes Charitable Foundation, Inc. |
