People walk across campus, near Lilly Hall and Clowes Memorial Hall

Description: People walk across campus near Lilly Hall (foreground) and Clowes Memorial Hall (background) and cars are parked along Clarendon Road and 46th Street (later renamed Butler Way). When Lilly Hall opened in September 1962, the building featured a central courtyard with an outdoor stage, 40 individual practice rooms, 10 classrooms, 4 dance studios, 6 organ practice rooms, 3 group rehearsal rooms, 30 studio-offices, and a large rehearsal hall, among other features. At the time of its opening in 1963, Clowes Memorial Hall, had 2,200 seats among three tiers of boxes and terraces. A portion of Hinkle Fieldhouse is visible in the background, to the left of the other buildings. The large pile of dirt sitting to the west of Clarendon Road might be from the construction of the Science Complex. The back of the photograph is stamped with the name David W. Carfolite (Class of 1976). According to the 1976 Drift, Butler Universitys yearbook, Carfolite was the photo editor for The Butler Collegian and worked on The Drift (p. 187).
