Description: |
Although Holcomb Gardens opened in 1950, the Garden House was not completed until 1952. According to Arthur F. Lindberg, Butler University Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds at the time of the buildings construction, after the first event was held in Holcomb Gardens, people realized there were no restrooms, which led to the development of the Garden House. Donated by J. I. Holcomb, the structure was built to house a meeting room, kitchenette, and public restrooms, and was constructed of Indiana limestone and cypress. The space has been used for Butler University events, meeting and classroom space, and as the location for wedding receptions, among other activities. |
