This statue of Persephone stands in the center of a pool in Holcomb Gardens. Carved circa 1840 by Armand Toussaint, the statue was a gift from J. I. Holcomb in 1950. According to the article Greek Goddess Guards Campus Sparking Spot by Ken Smith, in the September 20, 1950, issue of The Butler Collegian, She is a native of Paris, and her youthful appearance belies the fact that she can remember 1840 (p. 1). |
