Description: |
Flowers decorate the Atherton Union cafeteria and floral arrangements sit in the center of every table in preparation for the Holcomb Observatory dedication dinner. One of the initial events of Butler Universitys Centennial celebrations and Homecoming, the dedication of the building was held on November 5, 1954. During the dedication dinner that followed, 400 invited guests listened to speakers including Charles F. Kettering, of the General Motors Corporation, who received an honorary Doctor of Science degree during the celebrations. Next to the windows, a model of the observatory sits on the speakers table. This model might be the ice cream-observatory cake listed on the menu in the events printed program. |
