Description: |
A color photograph of a side view of Forest Home, the former home of Butler University founder Ovid Butler. The covered entry and second floor balcony, located on the front of the house, can be seen on the right side of the photograph. At the time of the homes construction in 1848, the location at the corner of 13th Street and Park Avenue was considered to be part of the country and a fence around the house protected the lawn from wandering cattle. When construction of the house was completed, trestle tables were set up in the front rooms and Butlers daughters served dinner to everyone who had worked on the house. |
