| Description: |
This photograph highlights stairs leading to a doorway and limestone carving on the north side of Jordan Hall. The construction of Jordan Hall began in September 1926, and the building was constructed of reinforced concrete with brick infill on the exterior walls. Designed by architects Robert Frost Daggett and Thomas Hibben, it has 2,797 tons of Balfour pink granite and 2,500 tons of limestone covering the exterior walls. The stone is purely decorative and does not support the building structurally. The general contractor was the Hegeman-Harris Company, which had built buildings for other universities including Yale, Harvard, and Columbia. |
