West side of Jordan Hall under construction

Description: The construction of Jordan Hall began in September 1926, and this photographs highlights the construction as viewed from the west side of the building. The building was designed in the Collegiate Gothic architectural style by architects Robert Frost Daggett and Thomas Hibben and the general contractor was the Hegeman-Harris Company, which had built buildings for other universities including Yale, Harvard, and Columbia. When Jordan Hall opened on September 17, 1928, it was the only academic building on Butler Universitys Fairview campus and contained 54 classrooms, a science lecture hall that could seat 240 students, as well as other lecture halls for 150 to 200 students. The west wing housed the library, with a reading room on the first floor and book stacks in the basement, as well as the College of Religion.
