U. H. S., with wins to show over Martinsville, Mitchell, Columbus, anda tie with B. H. S. during the regular season, and with many returning letter-men, ought to be a definite threat. Among these are Joe Coia, Vic Mcllveen,Dick Hansen, Dave Cline, Jack Moore, Dick Herrman, Bob Snoddy, and BobGood. The team will also be bolstered by many promising numeral winnerssuch as George Gavit, Dave Rogers, Jack Beatty, and John Seeber.The first meet of the season was with Martinsville, in which the Univeesshowed power in defeating the Artesians by the overwhelming score of86 1 /2 to 22 1 /2. On the next Friday the Univees invaded the B. H. S. athleticfield and came out in a deadlock with the purple aggregation. The score wasU. H. S., 54 1/2; B. H. S. 54 1/2. The following week was spent in rubbingoff the Mitchell cindermen by the somewhat lopsided score of 78 to 31.The University track men next ventured to the Petersburg relays wherebrilliant showings were made by Bob Snoddy, who set a new meet record inthe high hurdles, and by the relay teams composed of Bob Snoddy, Dave Cline,Dick Hansen, and Joe Coia, who ran both the half mile and the mile relays.The relay team won the mile relay but was disqualified because of a collisionwith another runner. They also won their heat in the half mile relay.With only one meet remaining before the sectional U. H. S. got down tohard work and polished off the Columbus Bulldogs by a 75-34 count.In the sectional U. H. S. placed second. The team was led by Bob Snoddy,who took first place in both hurdle events, and Dave Cline, who won the 100and 440 yard dashes. These two boys gained the right to participate in thestate meet in which creditable showings were made by both.Bob Snoddy was elected captain of the team by his teammates.Page fifty-six
