Frolicking females find fun inGAA games. The Girls’ Athletic Association, sponsored by Miss Pat Fehl, offers avaried athletic program to girls in grades 9 to12. The girls have their own Executive Council consisting of officers and sport managers.The function of this group is to plan the year’sactivities and handle problems of the organization. The officers this year are Sandra Thompson, president; Sally Femal, vice-president; BethCresson, secretary; Marilyn Regester, treasurer.By attending sports and other GAA events,girls accumulate points’ toward membership.Any girl having 50 points is eligible for initiation. After initiation, 175 points are needed toearn class numerals. The next award which aGAAer can earn is the old English U” awardedto those with 3 50 points. GAA’s highest awardis the gold key which is given to outstandingmembers with 550 points. At the beginningof the school year, the GAA had their annualget-acquainted” picnic and pledged new girls1interested in the club. During the yuletide season, GAA presented a progressive dinner andcarolling party. In early spring, eligible girlsreceived their awards at the Awards InitiationTea. The mothers of GAAers were invited andnew members were initiated. The GAA combined their talents with those of the U-Men topresent a sock hop on Friday, March 13 in theU-School gym. In May, GAA girls honored thegraduating seniors with a banquet at whichmore awards were given and officers for thenext year were announced. A vast variety ofsports is offered to club members. In the fall,hockey, baseball, and bowling are offered. Winter brings GAAers inside with basketball, pingpong, shuffleboard, volley ball, and deck tennis.
