Beatlemania, Prom, and the Big Shift“Tastes good! Like a grapefruit should,” rationalizes MariLeininger as she eats her lunch during art class.“I’ll be darned if I’m going to let this out of one ear!”exclaims Diane Brogneaux. What more could be said about May than theProm and Graduation? Called “Shen Hwa” fromChinese history, and translated to mean “FairyTale,” the Prom featured dragons and ancient Chinese warriors. Everyone agreed that it was oneof the best ever given at U-school. The end of themonth saw the advent of the Senior Convo. SeniorWeek, Honor Day, and finally graduation. The students of University High School areamong the most fortunate of the country, with theirwide opportunities and varied activities. But theseactivities are relatively unimportant if the studentsare not conscious of them as beneficial experiences. Not just the big event such as the dance, the game, the final, but also the everyday things, the studying in the library, the chats in the hall, the candid| g aliveness of youth.“Honest, I’m really working!” says Kedrick Beasley as helooks at a rug on display in the Fine Arts Building.March was the Jordannus deadline, and manyfrantic editors were seen tearing out their grayinghair in those last few days. Luna and the NationalMerit Qualifying tests came hand and hand. Andthen—on March 22—THE MOVE!April found the students decorating for the Student Council Semi-Formal, and frantically workingout the last steps to “Pajama Game.” Productionnight came and went, leaving wonderful memoriesof a great show. The spontaneity and aliveness ofthe cast made this play one of the best in years foreveryone.“Yabba-Dabba-Do!”Bruce Shaffer, senior, plays caveman, and Sally Benckart, junior, seems a little unsure of the outcome.w |
