Ricky Newton helps Karen Mann get settled for the new year.Over five hundred hungry students swarm into the cafeteriadaily at 11:30 and 12:30.Organization emergesOn the first day of the new school year, 7thgraders were perplexed by locker combinationsand seniors by each other’s newly decoratedcords. Although there was the usual rush forbooks, a new system of enrollment, initiated byMr. Schilling, virtually did away with bluechange-of-schedule slips. In our recently remodeled cafeteria, students found themselvesdoubly crowded during the first semester as1we shared lunch facilities with Binford. Theancient ritual of preparing for dances Fridayevening was perpetuated by all four classes andby every other organization needing money. Thereign of older students over the cafeteria wasbroken in November for the Junior High party. In February, after much remodeling and several “cleaning parties,” the majority of the Junior High classes moved into the UniversitySchool Annex, giving most teachers a separateclassroom. The air was filled with talk of a newbuilding. The move to the Annex was accompanied by two long-awaited changes: 7:30classes were almost completely eliminated andstudents were allowed in the building at 8:15.Junior high classes were moved to the U-School Annex onehectic day in February.$If iiillini *I • ■!,:?1l .U ■OF |
