Description: Roundballers Compile 8-11 Hooper RatingThe Univees started new Coach Al Gallooff on the right foot by winning their firstgame of the season and the first of Mr.Gallo’s coaching career. Coach Gallo hadfive returning lettermen from last year’ssquad, which won two games in tournamentplay. Five members from last year’s reservesquad gave the Univees a strong bench.For the first time in many years theUnivees played an 18 game schedule andwere privileged to open their season athome. The team showed a strong liking fortheir home floor by winning six out of ninegames played on Univee hardwood. Two ofthe losses were by two points and one ofthese was in a double overtime to Mooresville. The other two point loss was to Lincolnof Evansville, one of the top ten teams inthe state.This year the Univees had an abundanceof height. They were one of the few teamsin the state who could afford to have two6 feet 4 inches men on the bench. The starting line up averaged 6 feet 3 inches. Withthis height the Univees were able to matchalmost all of their opponents in the. rebounding department. The team’s main trouble wasan inability to hit the basket on foreignfloors.The Univees pulled several minor upsetsthis year. Harry E. Wood, of Indianapolis,a team which lost only five games all season, fell to the Univees along with Smithville, who lost only six games this year.The Univees won eight and lost elevengames during the 1955-56 season.
