Description: We, the class of 1951, started our school career at a very youngage. Our first years were spent in trying to grasp the fundamentalsfor a foundation Readin’, Ritin’, and ’Rithmetlc. All through ourgrade school we encountered many ups anddowns, including measles,mumps, and whooping cough. Although it was quite a struggle, wemanaged to make it into High School right up to standard.Our Freshman year started with an enrollment of twenty: FrancesBruner, Bob McCoy, Goldie Richardson, Lavine Hendrickson, Amy Wampler,Lee Lucas, Gene Walls, Barbara Sluss, Mildred Mann, Lulu Martin, ErmaSklrvin,(Rosalie Fritch, Pat Baugh, Betty McCoy, Bill McCoy, TommyMcClary, George Walker, Carolyn Polley, Virgil Galyan, and WalterCornelius. Later in the year we increased to twenty-one with the addition of Marcella Greeson who entered from Indianapolis.The outstanding event of our Freshman year was the initiation. Wespend the day wearing our clothes wrong side out. In the evening wewere invited to a party at the high school, at which we were spurred onby the paddle-wielding Sophomores.Beginning our Sophomore year, our class enrollment1 was brought downfrom twenty-one to an even twenty. During the fall we lost Lavine Hendrickson and Lulu Martin. Joe Thoman entered from Quincy High School,and Don Lincicome entered from Martinsville High School. The Importantevent of the year was our successful basketball season. The Arrows became the Tri-County Champions” one more, and the Sophomores were prettywell represented with Tom McClary and Don Lincicome both seeing actionin the games and Rosalie Fritch as one of our cheer leaders. The restof the year passed swiftly, and we soon found ourselves wJolly Juniors.At the start of the following fall Walter Cornelius withdrew, andleft us with nineteen Juniors, This year our class began in realearnest to make history. First came our Junior Penny Carnival, whichwas very successful. As the year continued we were represented on thefirst squad in basketball by four Junior boys: Gene Walls, TommyMcClary, Bill McCoy, and Donald Lincicome, with Bob McCoy our co-manager.We also had three junior cheer leaders: Rosalie Fritch, Mildred Mann,and Erma Sklrvin. Later on in the year Frances Bruner withdrew fromschool.The Juniors and Seniors were very busy making plans for theirJunior and Senior trip. It was finally decided, and we had a wonderfultrip to St. Louis, Missouri. This ended our Junior year, which wasindeed filled with many happy memories for all of us.Finally the most important year, our Senior year, rolled around,and we were finally poised on the very rim of our goal—Graduation JWith George Walker’s not entering and Marcella Greeson Johnson’swithdrawal after the first six weeks, our enrollment was brought downto sixteen.Every day for two-weeks Senior’s sported their bright yellow cordpants and skirts with much pride, exchanging signatures and pictureson them.
