Description: Junior Class PlayMarch 19, 1948The Junior Class presented “The Campbells Are Coming,” a farcecomedy by Jay Tobias. A hilarious play with hillbilly trimmings, describingthe most effective way fpr getting rid of an undesirable suitor. Kaye Branniganreturns from a girls school chuck full of culture. Much to her family’s disgust,she breaks with sturdy, dependable Jeff Scudder and announces her engagementto a young snob, Kingston Campbell. Learning that Kingston’s aristocraticmother believes that the Brannigans are hillbillies and that Kingston and hismother are coming for a visit to find out the truth, the resourceful Brannigansdisguise themselves as hillbillies and receive the guests during the absenceof Kaye, who has hastened to a nearby city to purchase everyth ’■g from caviarto tuxedos, in order to impress the Campbells. The Brannigans appear barefoot,dressed in rags, and carrying shotguns, frightening the Campbells half out oftheir wits by mistaking them for revenooers. One riotously funny situationfollows another in rapid succession. At last Kingston indignantly refuses tomarry Kaye, and the Brannigans rejoice that their scheme has worked. Thenjust as the Campbells are about to depart, in walks Kaye, wrathfully demandingexplanations.
