Description: -~C?la55 fttopkecuAs I, Frances Vail, was riding in a passenger coach of a train, my thoughts were on the classmatesI hadat Stinesville High School. It was now eight years since I had left Stinesville. I was now afirst-grade teacher, my goal since I was in the first grade. I wondered in what professions the rest ofthem were now.Suddenly the train, which was going from Kentucky to Indiana, stopped and a few minutes laterthe entrance door opened and a woman in a waves uniform, and a man in a soldiers uniform stepped in.I knew who both of them were the minute I saw them, Hilda Headdy and Lynn Arnett. They took theseat across the aisle from me and I started a conversation. Hilda said that Sheila Taylor was a modelin Hollywood and that Linda Wilhite was in New York and had become a secretary. In another hour we arrived in Indiana. Lynn suggested that the three of us eat together in a restaurantfor old time sake. We went to a restaurant, ordered a meal, and who should walk up but Jeanette Goble. From Jeanette we learned that she was married and was a housewife and that Faye Peterson had become aflight nurse, Jack Bowman was a doctor, and Charles Cooter was a lieutenant in the United States MarineCorps.Lynn said he had to be at the Union Station at a certain time so after bidding us good-bye and goodluck, he hailed a taxi.Hilda said that she had a sick friend in the hospital and asked me to accompany her there. On our wayto the bus stop, Hilda and I passed a theater. On one of the posters was the picture of a man in a pin-stripedsuit and a straw hat on his head. Because the face looked familiar, Hilda and I went closer. Thereunderneath the picture were the words, The famous comedian, John Stewart, will be on the stage in persontonight. When we came to the bus stop, there was Donna Mitchell with three little daughters. She wasmarried two years after she graduated. Hilda asked Donna what had become of Nadine Smith. Donna saidthat Nadine had married a minister and was living in Chicago, Illinois. Nadine had two lovely twin boys.Donna Pointed across the street to a pickle factory and said Jim Carter owned it. Hilda and I looked at the sign, sure enough, it said J. A. Carters Pickle Factory. Now our bus came; when I got on, I recognized the drivers face, it was Dave Hough. In a half anhour we were at the hospital. When we reached the room of Hildas friend, there was a nurse in there,Bonnie Hughes. Bonnie informed us that Nancy Ellett was now a policewoman and led an exciting life.We asked Bonnie about Mr. Floyd, our senior class sponsor. She said that he had succeeded Branch McCracken and was coaching basketball at Indiana University. Jim Prather was one of Coach Floydsstarting five on his basketball team.Hilda spent some time with her friend and then I said that I was sorry but I had to leave her. Ibade her good-bye, went outside and caught a bus which would take me to my parents home, where Iwas going to spend Christmas.by Frances Vail25
