Class Prophe cyIt all started when Junior dug out my old annual with all the naturalcuriosity of a six year old. He started asking me about the pictures. Then I began wondering about the old gang myself. I thought maybethe telephone directory would help me. Sure enough, there was TravisTaylors name. I dialed his number and a woman answered the phone. Shebecame sort of suspicious when she heard my voice, but started laughingwhen I told her my name. I would know that giggle anywhere. It was KayBowman. She told me that she and Travis were married in *55. Then webegan discussing old times and the fun we used to have. She told me thatRalph Fulford owned a dairy farm, Ernie Purcell ran a chain grocery, andthat Gary Stewart had gone on to play pro-basketball. After we had a longdiscussion, I began reading the morning papers. Guess who had made theheadlines! Betty Ellett. She had married a multi-millionaire and was goingabroad in June. I continued reading and in the hospital records.I discovered that Carol Barr Wilbur had become the mother of triplets. I thenread something which was quite amazing. It was an advertisement invitingall the ladies to come to Lavonne VanDeventers beauty shoppe! After reading the papers I turned on the television set. Imagine mysurprise when the familiar face of Rufford Gadd smiled out at me. In thebackground I could see Charles Clouse beating out the tune of Im movingOn, on his guitar. Following the program Ed Lawrence, of all people, read a commercial and announced that Kiss Me Quick was currently showing at the Princess theater, with Don Arthur the leading man.About this time I heard a commotion outside. Thinking that it mustbe the new neighbors moving in, I looked out the window. To my atsonish-ment, it was Lloyd Wampler and Phyllis Taylor. They were obviously marriedfor they were surrounded by kids of all sizes and ages..I would.have liked to visit them, but I simply had to get the house cleansup. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Pruett are visiting us tonight. Oh, yes, Mrs. Pruettis the former Janet Hite.Well, I guess the old class of 53 is scattered far and wide now, but arestill bound together by links of memory.By Violet HalsteaH25_■ |
