Description: The following Tuesday in the battle for the Jug against Gosport we lost to a sizzling hot Gosportgroup, 75 to 54.In our tune-up for the Wabash Valley, we found ourselves on the victory road again defeating CoalCity by a score of 77 to 47.For our first game of the Tri-County, we drew across-the-river rivals, Gosport. The Lads exhibitedsome very good ball handling and team spirit as they scratched Gosports name off the contenders listfor the championship by a score of 68-60.In our second game, one night later, we met Unionville in the Martinsville goal house and playedon even terms with them until we got in serious foul trouble in the closing minutes. Losing four regulars tumbled our chances considerably and we bowed to a fine Unionville squad 62-59.On February 1, we traveled to Solsberry to play our first game after the Tri-County. Solsberry,having one of the best records in the area, provided very stiff competition, finally pulled away inthe last half to defeat us by a 10 point margin. The score was 66-56.Two days later in the local goal house we met a tough rival, Unionville. It was a thrilling battleall the way with Unionville pulling it out of the fire in the final seconds with a score of 58-57.In one of our better games of the year, we entertained a very rugged Eminence team. The boysshowed above average playing, displaying good ball handling as well as good shooting..We cameout on top by a score of 66-51.On Saturday night, February 11, we traveled to Coalmont to play Hymera. As it was only onenight later, the boys seemed to be rather tired and this was the main factor in a lopsided loss to ourhosts by the score of 75-56.To wrap up our season, we lost a close game to a fine Smithville team by the score of 73-67. Thisleft us with an 8 won, 12 lost record for the year. We are looking forward to the Sectional where wemeet an always strong contender for the crown, Martinsville.SECOND TEAMThe B team enjoyed a very successful season this year winning 12 and losing 6. To start off theseason they lost to Ellettsville, then won their next game at the expense of Helmsburg. In their nextgame, they lost to Gosport, but after this, they got back on their feet, winning their next three in arow. The next loss was to Smithville, and then came another repeat of three victories in a row. Afterthese wins, they hit a snag again, and lost to Ellettsville and Gosport again, then defeated Coal City,only to lose to University the following game. Getting back on the victory road, they won their lastfour to wind up the season with a good record and a lot of promise for the varsity in years to come.53
