To open our basketball season we traveled to Ellettsville and trimmedthe Eagles wings for the first time in seven years. All the boys played hardand most of them saw action sometime during the game. The final scorewas 69-46.Next we picked up our boys and went to Patricksburg. We expected itto be a tough game, but the lads slipped through with no trouble at all. Thescore at the final gun read 77-47Our third ball game was on the SHS floor. The Helmaburg Tigers were arough crew but not rough enough for The Lads. We came through winning bya large margin of 69-41.The Unionville Arrows journeyed here for our fourth game. Since that isRiddles home town we wanted to win badly. We were expecting a close gamebut the Lads slid through with another large score and margin also. The finalrally was 80-47.For our fifth game we were still playing on our home floor and stillwinning. The Paragon Panthers were our visitors. It was our closest game butthey were never ahead of The Mighty Quarry Lads. Although it was ourtoughest game we trembled through by the score of 44-39.On December 5, 1953, the Lads were handed their first defeat, when theyjourneyed to Morgantown. The Trojans bottled the Lads up in the little gymand were in the lead when the final horn sounded. Although the Lads played awonderful game they were topped 63-60.On December 12th the Smithville Skibos visted us for the first time thisyear. The Lads had some trouble in the first half but pulled away with notrouble in the second. The score was 70-37.The Stinesville Quarry Lads packed their equipment and journeyed toHelmsburg on December 19, 1953. We were really back on the victory landagain. At the end of the game, the final score was 67-43.On January 2, 1953, the Indians invaded the Quarry Lads. We scalpedthem again with an easy victory.
