Description: (^iass diistoryWe began our high school grind in Sej^tember of 1941, andthus started our never-to-be-forgotten days as greenie freshmen. Yes, we wrere green freshmen then, and we must have gotin a rut, because here we are as seniors, and we are still green.Martha Thomas was elected to preside over our ujjroariousmeetings: and since she moved in a short time, Margaret Smithdid the honors during the remaining months. (Johnny Hyndssafeguarded our revenues—Ave imagine he had all of ten cents!)If anyone mentions sorghum molasses, the seniors still shudder, because these words remind them of their freshman initiationwhen they were generously spread with this sticky concoctionand then jjowdered with flour. Our traditional freshman banquet was a great success. In a short time this happy year wasover, and we were ready to become sophomores. After four months of glorious vacation, we again took upbook larnin as sophomores. Our officers were: Paul Hudson, President; Marilyn Jo Brown, Vice-President, and SpeedySt. Clair, Treasurer. The feature of the year was the sophomoreskating party, at which more people were on the floor than ontheir feet. Then came our junior year and, dear readers, we know thatyou were aware of this fact because you supported our coke, candy, and sandwich sales at all the home basketball games. Also, when the teachers glanced out of their classrooms, they saw, half the junior class walking down the hall. We confess thatour conduct grades began to take on a dark and gloomy aspect. To everyones relief we pulled through to the end, which wasthe Junior-Senior Banquet. Our theme was nautical, and thedecorations and even the menu had gone maritimical. Mayarrived, and the seniors of 43 took their place among thealumni. We bade them farewell, knowing that we should filltheir coveted shoes the next fall. Marilyn Jo Brown managedthe class squabbles, assisted by Mury Harris, and Nina McNeelygot gray hairs in the class financial field. At last we were seniors! The beginning of the end had come!Benny Dillman abdicated from the presidency, and Mary LeeMay completed his term with great success. Earl Leach waselected to fill the vice-presidential vacancy. The seniors gavetwo plays in their junior year, but the senior j)lay, Our Girls, was one of the biggest events in our class history. If we may bepermitted to use slang, it was a knockout. Whoever sujjposedthat one class had so many talented actors and actresses! Graduation is getting very near and we, the class of 1944, wish to bidall our friends adieu and exjjress the desire that you will all haveas happy a high school life as we have enjoyed.Page Seventeen
