Description: 1HLAMAR A9 4 1-A C T I V I T I E S—ContinuedJOINT MEETING NO. 2The Boys and Girls Councils had another joint meeting on January 31. Thismeeting consisted of two basketball games. The first game was between the womenteachers and high school girls. The girls won. The second game was between themen teachers and the basketball squad. The squad beat the teachers. (P. S. It wasreally, a good game—Mr. Stewart and Mr. Sakel gave us some good laughs!!)SPELLING BEE AND ARITHMETIC CONTESTThe annual Spelling Bee and Arithmetic Contest were held at our school building March 29. The juniors worked hard to serve lunches and refreshments to theguests and contestants. There were a total of 333 contestants. The spelling contestants numbered 188, and there were 145 arithmetic contestants.GLEE CLUBThe Glee Club started with a bang this year. After several had dropped out, the attendance remained about sixty. The whole Glee Club participated in the Tri-CountyMusic Festival, which was held April 4 in the Bloomington High School gymnasium.Nine schools participated in this festival. On April 18 about forty members wentto the new University School to take part in the district festival. Both of the Bloomington High Schools, Bedford, Franklin, and Ellettsville High Schools took part. TheGlee Club will end its activities by singing at Baccalaureate.BANDThe band has participated in many activities this year. It started the year byplaying at the Fall Festival. It played for the dedication of the new gymnasium. Itplayed in a concert at Gosport, October 31. The band furnished music at nine homegames this winter; and at Spencer, Needmore, and Oolitic the band followed ourboys and either helped them to victory or cheered them in defeat. The band playedat a P. T. A. meeting and took part in a band contest at Bloomington on April 4.The band ends the school year by playing at Commencement. We are very proudof the band and hope it continues for many years.SUPPER FOR BALL BOYSOn March 28 a pot-luck supper was given in honor of the graduating basketballplayers. A large number of fans were present. Sweaters were awarded to BobbyGrubb, James Goodall, and Hubert Frame. These boys were good players and willbe greatly missed on next years team.MAY DAYThe May Day program was held Wednesday night, April 30, in the new gym.There was an athletic stunt from each of the grades, the Freshmen boys, the VernalSchool, and the Cross Roads School. There were two May Pole dances, one by thefreshmen girls and one by the first grade girls. The Queen and her attendants werechosen from the senior class. The program started with a Flag Formation and groupsinging. A large audience attended, and evervone thought the program was verybeautiful.o—Page Forty-two
