He is helping to constructone of the largest skyscrapers in New York City, and he wishes to report that he andhis wife are managing nicely on his W. P. A. salary. And there is Cleon Butch Martindale, who made the trip here from the Rock, accompanied by two guards. Butch is spending a ten year vacation at the islandresort for bootlegging, but it is rumored that he just had to see a certain eighth gradegirl whom he stole from the cradle back in 1941, and who hasnt graduated yet. There goes Erma Phipps walking down the hall. Erma is now an important politician and at present is campaigning for the governorship. She undoubtedly got herspeech making ability in high school where she was one of the noisier seniors. We even have a member of the nobility with us. I refer, of course, to PrincessAlexandria Rimscovitch (the former Barbara Holler), who picked up a second-handRussian prince somewhere. The Princess informs me that their palace is being remodeled, so at present they are living in a boarding-house in Indianapolis. The gentleman over there in overalls (I mean the one who acts as if he could usea spittoon) is John Gillespie. He has just come in from the hills of Brown countywhere he operated a successful still until the officers took it away from him.We are well represented in the financial world by Buford Roberts, the wealthybusiness typhoon of Wall Street, who tore himself away from his ticker-tape machineto be with us. Buford got his financial experience in high school where he was theschool treasurer his last two years of school.Miss Doris Hamm is the only member of the class of 41 who has remained faithfulto E. H. S. by staying here for the past 20 years. Doris, who spent most of her highschool days in the office, is now the regular secretary to the principal. How shecan stand to go to school for all of thirty-two years is more than we can understand.Another celebrity is among us in the person of Jim Dab Goodall, Broadway playboy and socialite whose madcap escapades have been in the newspapers many times.Dab says, however, that he wants to give it all up to be a farmer and to raiseprize chickens.Over there we find Mary Ellen Shigley, who fulfilled her ambition and is now fashion editor of the exclusive fashion magazine, Milady. Her latest creation is a hatwhich has been selected by a board of impartial judges as being the most unsightlything they have ever seen. Nice work, Mary Ellen !!!Here is Doris Crider who now has a mail route in Alaska. She makes the trip bydog-sled and tells us that it got so terribly cold up in Alaska that she just had tocome back to our beautiful climate and warm up. She says she never will forget thebeautiful winter we had in 1941.And there, of all people, is Betty Ratliff, with her first, second, third, and fourthhusbands. It seeems she couldnt decide which one to bring; so she brought themall. Perhaps now you can understand why, way back in 1941, they called her Diana,Goddess of the Hunt.Another celebrity in the crowd is the brilliant physicist, Bob Loesch. He has justcompleted work on a rocket ship to go to the moon and guarantees that it will notcome back. Therefore, he states, he built it for the special use of all teachers.Over there in the tattered suit of clothes is the class brain, Elmo Deckard. He isnow using his literary talents in writing for True Story Magazine. His lateststory is one of his .own experiences in high school where he was the great favorite ofthe faculty members.Music for the reunion dance this evening will be provided by John Dewar and hisSmootheroos, who have come all the way from Singapore to play for us. John wonhis blonde wife, whom he calls Buck, and his orchestra at Monte Carlo.Last, but not least, we are honored by the presence of Ruth Stines who has justsecured her sixth divorce in Reno. She is soon to marry an European count-of-sorts.A well known publishing company is trying to persuade Ruth to write a book entitled How to Be a Success .... In Six Easy Marriages.Page Twenty-three
