H.McNeelys home. William Rawlins was the teacher, and the term was only threemonths long. An early log school stood just behind W. B. Harriss PrintingOffice. In 1855 a frame building of two rooms was erected and used for almosttwenty years. It is still standing. It is the first house west of the ChristianChurch on Sales Street. Major Henry F. Perry was one of the first teachersthere. In 1872 a larger brick building was erected on Temperance Street wherethe home of W. B. Harris, Junior stands; but it was not large enough to accommodate the primary department, which was housed in the small brick building where the telephone exchange is located.Page Five
