Description: LLAMARADAH^^MH :.?^?HISTORY OF THE ELLETTSVILLE SCHOOLIndiana led the western states in establishing free schools to allpeople. In 1822 the first school building in Richland Township stoodon the site of C. H. McNeelys home. William Rawlins was the teacher,and the term was only three months long. An early log school stoodjust behind W. B. Harriss Printing office. In 1855 a frame buildingof two rooms was erected and was used for almost twenty years. Itis still standing. It is the first house west of the Christian Church onSale Street. Major Henry F. Perry was one of the first teachers there.In 1872 a larger brick building was erected on Temperance Streetwhere the home of W. B. Harris, Junior, stands, but it was not largeenough to accommodate the primary department, which was housedin the small brick building where the telephone exchange is located.In 1915 the consolidated school system was established in Indianaand a stone structure was erected at Ellettsville.
