Ellettsville High School, The Flash, 1930, Page 5

Description: The Flash 5CLASS OF 1930General History of ClassTwenty-one boys and girls entered high school on September 13, 1929 as Seniors of old E. H. S.On the last day of our Junior year we chose the following Senior officers: Martha Rtenour, Sponsor; Marie Stultz, President; Harley Wright. Vice-President, and Lois Coffey, Treasurer. In additionMr. Neel was chosen as our legal advisor. Each one did his duty throughout the year. The first class meeting was held for the purpose of deciding whether we should publish an annualor a school paper. After much consideration and mental exertion the class as a whole decided that aschool paper would serve best to keep the parents and students posted on school news. In remembrance of dear old faces a magazine was published at the end of the year. The staff was very busily engaged with school news.A play, Watch your step, Wilton, was given as the first attempt to meet our financial difficulties. However, the weather was so blasty and blowy that our patrons couldnt very well leave theirfireside. Our pocketbook was still flat and as we had often heard that Ellettsville folks were veryfond of good stuff to eat, we gave a chicken dinner for their benefit. That put us to floating.Just for fun we gave another play, Nobody but, Nancy, and how people criticized that play is nobodys business.Although every past event cant be written on paper there is a different history written in eachstudents and Facultys mind. In reality these events will always be considered very important onesand will be foremost in their minds. We hope that our future history will be as successful as our past.CLASS WILLThe Senior Class has felt for some time that its demise was near; we have felt that the membersof the faculty had conspired to accomplish the death of the most astonishingly brilliant class of thewalls of E. H. S. and the teachers thereof have ever frowned upon. The bitter doses of lessons wehave taken with daily regularity have hastened rather than prolonged our class demise, and weknow with sorrowful certainty that the hour of our departure is near at hand. Therefore, being sosoon to pass from these scenes of educational activity; being in full possession of alert minds andmemories that put the most extensive encyclopedias to shame* having faculties keenly sharpened bymany contests with flinty instructors, we would publish upon this funereal occasion, the last will andtestament of the Senior Class of 1930.To the members of our beloved faculty who look upon our demise with smiles of joy, we bequeaththe satisfaction which comes from duties well performed. In addition we bequeath them our regrets that their work with us was so barren of results—we leave them, but we dont leave them much!IITo the Junior Class, as our rightful and worthy successors, we leave:(1) Our Seats.(2) Our Senior dignity.(3) Our repeated tendency to make a little knowledge go a long way in the classroom.(4) Our honored positions as models for the school—in wit, wisdom, charm, excellency ofmanner, physical development, and intellectual expansion.IllTo the Sophomore Class, we leave the following advice, accepting which will lead them on to higher paths of Knowledge: learn to work if not to win: development comes sooner through bearingfailures than successes. It isnt fun, but still look at Nineteen-Thirty and be encouraged.IVTo the Freshman Class, the Senior Girls, leave their pep and ability to play Basket-Bali. We, theSenior Boys leave our Ill get by attitude to the Freshman Boys hoping they will be able to put itover, as well as we have.VThe following personal bequests, freely and fully given, should be treasured as a continual reminder of the abundant and overwhelming generosity of the Class and individuals thereof:(1) To the Freshman Class, I Myrtle Blough do will my scholastic ability in Latin. My longrank and fame as a poetess I leave to Frances Harding. (Turn to page 26 please)
