Description: YEARS ROLLED BY, OUR NUMBERS GREW AND SPIRITS SOAREDEllettsville and Richland Township are growing and likewisethe school population until in lessthan five years the enrollmenthas doubled. Something had tobe done. It was in March, 1956that serious thought of immediate building began, and byJune Trustee Lenzy Hayes andthe Advisory Board had purchased seven acres adjacent tothe old building at a cost of$24,600. Bonds were issued andcontracts let so that by April,1957 ground was broken andactual construction was started.By September at the opening ofschool, the building was not finished but was sufficiently nearcompletion that the class roomscould be used.This one-story structure is ofIndiana limestone and measures60x190 feet with a seventy-sixfoot corridor connecting it to theold building. It has eight classrooms, an office, and a clinic,and its own gas fired heatingplant. All of this new additionhas been acquired at a cost ofonly $108,626 or $8.93 persquare foot.The dedication ceremony andopen house celebration were onSunday afternoon, November 3,1957. Dr. Ralph N.
