The only two who had seen any first team action were Joe Fogle and Harley Jackson. Alan Borden, J. P. Summitt, BobbyPrice, and Dwight Rager were taken from the second team of 34 whileWalter Freeman, Eugene Williams, and Charles Jackson were promoted fromthe last years Junior High team. Deimer Herreid came to Ellettsville fromNorth Dakota and played in several games. Robert Van Dyke was chosenfor the manager of the team.The above boys had much bad luck and won only three ball games during the season. The Eagles defeated Spencer, Hopewell, and Unionville, andlost to Gosport, Martinsville B, Owensburg, Oolitic, Unionville, Stinesville,Paragon, Eminence, Spencer, Center Grove, and Crispus Attucks.The team loses the following men by graduation : Harley Jackson, AlanBorden, Deimer Herreid, Max Olson, Milton Crane, and James South. Theprospects for next year are exceedingly bright and the Eagles should have avery good record.COUNTY TOURNAMENTThe Eagles went to Morgantown, January 5. to play in the Tri-CountyTournament. They met the strong Morgantown quintet in their first game.After trailing 14-2 at the half they came back and made it a ball game to thefinish. The Eagles were finally subdued 25-22. Ellettsville placed one manon the All-Star team.SECTIONAL TOURNAMENTOn March 1 and 2, the Eagles journeyed to Martinsville to participate inthe Sectional Tournament. Their first game was with Mooresville, Fridaynight. They were crippled by the loss of Coach Foxworthy. who was confined to his bed with the flu, but they were encouraged by the aidof Mr. Smith. They lost the game 33-21. Martinsville won the tournament,defeating Mooresville 28-22 in the final game.Page thirty19 3 5pw* |
