All the boys who do not participate in awinter sport condition for track. Conditioning for track includes liftingweights everyday and running a lot. No matter how cold the weather wasoutside during the winter, the boys, especially the distance runners, ran formiles on end through the rain or snow.That dedication paved the way for success as, according to boys headcoach Micah Mobley, the track team had a number of finalists at the statetrack meet in a state which is very strong in track and field.Senior Blake Edwards advanced to state in pole vault by clearing 13-6Sophomore Zach Harrison made it to state in the 400-meter dash, pushinga 25-year-old school record. Senior Damien Chambers not only made it tostate in the 110 high hurdles and the 300 hurdles, but he also ran a 14.78in the 110s, just a shade off the 28-year-old school record of 14.7.Sophomore Austin Smith also advanced in the 300 hurdles. In fact, of thesix spots in the hurdling events for boys that advanced from Edgewoodsregional, three hailed from EHS.Finally, the 4X400 relay, comprised of senior Michael Mest, Smith,Harrison and Chambers, won the regional championship and improvedtheir sectional championship run by two seconds.\ |
