SUMMERX\^mMAEjj>Summer in Ellettsville, Indiana isusually hot and humid with its fairshare of summer storms. Yet thesummer of 2012 was exceptionallydry. Forest fires broke out atMcCormicks Creek State Park, which caused a burn ban to go intoeffect for the rest of the summer. Thiswas not met with any complaintsthough, because, with the heat, thelast thing anyone wanted to do wassit around a blazing bonfire. Constantheat advisories had Edgewoodstudents looking places other thanthe great outdoors for forms ofentertainment. Although the pool wasstill a hot spot, places like the malland the movie theatre seemed prettyappealing as well. For students braveenough to conquer the heat outside, water was essential and a stop byJosies for some Fro-Yo or Jiffy Treetfor some ice cream always seemedlike a good idea. When studentswerent hanging out with their friendsor vacationing with their families, theywere working. From McDonalds toMarsh and Taco Bell to IGA, summerjobs are necessary for gas moneyand future college funds. And as ifhaving a job and being a teen isntenough, a lot of Edgewood studentsfill the rest of their summer freedomwith sports and band. They practicedalmost every day, perfecting theirplays and routines so that the Stangswould be as strong as ever by thetime school started up again inAugust. |
