■.•.■j_The boys tennis team pulled out a solid season this fall. The teams goal any year is to win at least 10 games, whichwas accomplished this year with a record of 11-6 thatincluded an important win on senior night. The team went4-2 in the WIC, losing to Northview and Owen Valley byjust a fingernail as Coach Uhls put it. Ail of the conferenceteams were so equally matched in skill level that this recordwas still good enough for a three-way tie for second place. The varsity line-up consisted of nearly all seniors including:Brandon Owens (one singles with a best record of 11-5, All-Conference), Luke Teague (two singles, All-Conference),Hayden Holmes and Jared Home (one doubles), EvanMitchell, Bryan Wells, and Steven Braunlin (all playing twodoubles) with Mitchell Wampler being the loneunderclassman playing varsity (three doubles). A couple ofhighlights from the season include spending over an hourstuck on the side of the highway while on their way to WhiteRiver Valley with one shredded tire and one flat tire. Tryingto stay entertained any way possible, the guys resorted toyelling at everyone who drove by. And when the entirefootball team came to support the guys at their home matchagainst North, it was marked as one of the largest crowdsEdgewood tennis has ever seen. Unfortunately the teamsseason came to an end in the first round of sectionalsagainst South. However, one doubles gave a solid fight, taking their match to three sets for only the second time inschool history. Over all, it was a successful season forEdgewood boys tennis. |
