-~1BjCollege English Becomes FourThe largest department in Edgewood, as in anyschool, is the English Department. It was here thatstudents learned the proper use of English in bothspeaking and writing. Speech, Drama, and Journalism played an important part in the program. Learning to speak before a group, and being able to express ideas soon became a part of the classroomagenda. Application of writing skills and reportingwas demonstrated by the Journalism class, whichpublished the Hoofbeat, the school paper. All wasnot work for these classes though. Pantomines anddramatic monologues challenged the imaginationand creativity of the drama and speech classes,where situation pantomines put students in trappedelevators and lion cages.The Hoofbeat staff challenged the faculty tododgeball during one Friday homeroom period. Thefaculty put up a good fight, but were totally defeated, to the delight of the student body.
