Crowds Grow as Wrestlers WinThe largest team in Edgewoods history completedtheir second winning season with a 7-4 record. Theseboys dieted and ate before meets to meet their weightqualifications, often running miles around the gym inlast minute efforts to reduce the remaining couple ofpounds before the night of the match. Sprained muscles, growling stomachs, and support from the fans werethe important factors in the teams success.Growing crowds reflected a growing interest in wrestling. With a winning season, fans came to watch. Wherebefore at this time of year talk centered about basketball fouls and shots, there was additional talk of pins, decisions, and holds. For the first time, a fan bus followed the team to meets at other schools. Not all was work for the wrestlers, however. Aftermeets there were feasts and jokes, while the nearlystarving grapplers ate what they dieted off the daybefore.George McNichols uses brute force to throw his opponent to the mat.Row 7: Mr. Anderson, Coach; Lloyd Davis, Dane Scott, Steve Deckard, Mike Wood, Steve Rumple, Rick Wampler.
