Row V: David Skirvin, PhilRoberts, Doug Webb, Jeff Linton, Mark Thomas, Kenny Payne.The Edgewood Varsity wrestling team had an exceptional season under Coach Andersons direction. This was a rebuildingteam. They came on strong, taking even Mr. Anderson by surprise finishing with a 7-3 season.Edgewood hosted their first invitational tournament—a 4-way meet with Western, Schulte and Brownstown—and placedsecond. The team travelled to Brownsburg for a tournament, placing fifth with tough competition. The WCC championship wascaptured for the second consecutive year by the Mustangs, having 7 our of 13 chamipons. The season honors were topped off bya fourth place win in the sectional. A new school record was set when wrestlers John Burch at 112, Mike Weaver at 119 andRichard Dillman at 167 represented Edgewood in the Regionals after being sectional runners-up.Sophomore Dwight DeFord, the Mustangs 185 pounder, broke two school records during the 73 season. DeFord nowholds the record for the fastest pin—15 seconds, and for the most falls in one season—12.Anderson made a new addition to the team this year with eight wrestlerettes who travelled with the team keeping score,passing out oranges and backing the team.Seniors Bob Dillman and Barney Wells have managed the Mustang Wrestling team for four years. Senior letterman whohave wrestled their last for Edgewood include Mike Weaver 119, Dave Duncan 126, Jerry Veal 132, Steve Egemo 138, Dick Dili-man 167, Rusty Hesler 177 and Dave Perry HWT. The loss of these seven letterman will leave quite a hole in the Mustang teamagain for next year.This team has done a tremendous job that ended in a most successful season.
